I used to be a nailbiter.
BLING RINGS BY PATRICK DEMARCHELIER US VOGUE. BEHIND THE SCENES BY SOPHY ROBSON
Last year I spent 2 days in the studio with Patrick Demarchelier and a stream of New “IT GIRL” models for US Vogue Magazine. The results were a load of nail shots I felt it worth doing a post on. i have worked on editorials for US Vogue many times and usually I am instructed to do the nails a nude colour or on a good day a dark red. Any manicurist who works in fashion will tell you how difficult it is for the nails you do to end up in shot and the opportunity to do something interesting or creative are normally very limited so for me this story was a major boom moment.
I tried to add colour and interest wherever possible using Illamasqua Grab on Jourdan Dunn and Muchi Muchi by Essie on Pixie Geldof with the new squareletto tip shape. We wanted to the religious print nails but apparently christian iconography is a no go area in the magazine.
I was asked to do some print nails on model Tao Okamoto so I came up with the neon exotic feather design. As always I freestyled the idea on the spur of the moment, inspired by the Prada feather purse and the yellow fabric.
The make up artist was Tom Pecheux from Estee Lauder and hair was James Pecis. Fashion editor Tabitha Simmons. The rest of the shoot including some more actresses and Georgia Jagger are in the December issue.
Late December traveling nails. This is a gradient of emerald to navy over Sonia Kashuk’s dark copper “Two Cent” polish. That polish was difficult as hell to work with, exceptionally slow to dry, but I’ve never seen this shade of copper before. It’s fantastic.
